Ron DeSantis from Florida said he had an odd encounter on the way to the parking lot minutes before the shooting: "There was a guy that walked up to us that was asking whether it was Republicans or Democrats out there, and it was just a little odd."
Five people were injured , including two Capitol Police officers.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was shot in the hip and is undergoing surgery right now. He is said to be in stable condition.
