PITTSBURGH, PA - JUNE 07: (L - R) The Edge, Bono and Larry Mullen Jr. of U2 perform on The Joshua Tree Tour at Heinz Field on June 7, 2017 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

U2 frontman Bono took time off from the group’s Joshua Tree Tour to visit with Republican congressmen — including Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy — on Wednesday (June 21) to talk about the humanitarian concerns of his ONE Campaign organization.

A statement from ONE said that, “Bono is highlighting the lives saved by America’s investments in foreign assistance and underscoring testimony given by 16 retired generals and admirals last week about the critical importance of America’s National Security.”

Bono also met with the staff of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was wounded in last week’s baseball field attack in Virginia and signed a get-well card for the congressman.

…U2 bassist Adam Clayton, meanwhile, has been announced as this year’s recipient of the MusiCares Foundation’s Stevie Ray Vaughan Award, recognizing Clayton’s support of the MusiCares Map Fund to help musicians in need of assistance overcoming substance addiction.

Clayton will receive the honor during a June 26 gala in New York at which U2 will perform, along with the Lumineers, Macy Gray, Michael Franti and others.

U2 is in North America through July 1, then begins a European leg of the tour on July 8 in Twickenham, U.K.
