Album John Lennon Signed for Mark David Chapman Up For Sale
A grizzly piece of rock ‘n’ roll history is going on the auction block once again.
The copy of John Lennon and Yoko Ono‘s Double Fantasy that Lennon signed for Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980, just hours before Chapman killed the former Beatle outside his apartment building in New York, is being offered for sale by Moments In Time, with a $1.5 million asking price.
The album was initially owned by a building supervisor, who gave it to police for evidence; It was subsequently returned and he sold it for a reported $150,000 in 1999. The album, which features what’s thought to be Lennon’s second-to-last autograph, was sold again for $850,000 in 2010.
Moments In Time owner Gary Ziamet tells the New York Daily News that, “It’s the most incredible artifact in rock and roll history. There’s no question. I am delighted to have the opportunity to sell it once again”
Ziamet hopes to have the album sold within a week. More information can be found at MomentsInTime.com. Chapman is currently serving a 20 years to life in prison for second degree murder and has been denied parole nine times.
