Details on Upcoming Leonard Cohen Tribute Concert
The late Leonard Cohen will be feted with a tribute concert on November 6 in his hometown of Montreal.
The event, which comes nearly a year after Cohen’s November 7, 2016 death at the age of 82 from cancer, is being co-produced by Cohen’s singer-songwriter son Adam and Hal Wilner and will feature performances by the younger Cohen, Sting, Elvis Costello, k.d. lang, Philip Glass, Feist, Lana Del Rey, members of the Lumineers, Damien Rice, and Patrick Watson, with more participants to be announced. The Prime Minister of Canada and Premier of Quebec are also planning to attend the show.
In a statement, Adam Cohen says that, “My father left me a list of instructions before he passed: ‘Put me in a pine box next to my mother and father. Have a small memorial for close friends and family in Los Angeles…and if you want a public event, do it in Montreal. I see this concert as a fulfillment of my duties to my father that we gather in Montreal to ring the bells that still can ring.”
…Meanwhile, a posthumous video for “Leaving The Table” from Cohen’s final album, You Want It Darker, has been released, showing Cohen dancing both on earth and in the heavens.
