The show was based upon a book, Love Boats, by Jeraldine Saunders. She was a real cruise director, the first woman in that role for Princess Cruises.
Only three actors appeared in every episode of the series: Gavin MacLeod (Captain Stubing), Bernie Kopell (Doctor Bricker), and Ted Lange (your bartender, Isaac Washington).
