The helicopter, which was carrying tourists, crashed into the East River while on an aerial tour of New York with numerous passengers inside. The pilot lost engine power it appears and called out a Mayday Mayday on the way down. The crash was captured on video cell phone. The pilot was able to release his seatbelt and escape the chopper as it flipped and sank immediately. 5 passengers were not able to release their restraints and died. This was a special chopper flight for picture taking and the doors were open but all 5 passengers were so belted in for safety that they were not able to free themselves.
