McDonald's shareholders will decide whether to eliminate drinking straws in an effort to reduce trash.

Plastic Straws are difficult to recycle, so paper straws, or no straws at all, have been considered as alternatives.

McDonald's has been working on reducing waste and increasing recycling.

An online petition collected over 480,000 names asking McDonald's to eliminate plastic straws.

Other companies to cut back on plastics include Alaska Airlines, which eliminated plastic drink stirrers. In the U.K., McDonald's is trying a switch to paper straws.
