8 Safety And Calming Tips For Dogs During Fireworks
Here comes the 4th of July and that means fireworks. Fireworks and dogs don’t go so well together, so here are some tips to keep your dog safe and calm.
- Make sure to exercise your dog during the day.
- Keep your dogs inside during fireworks. Hopefully they’ll have their favorite person with them – you! Don’t take your dogs to the fireworks display.
- Provide a safe place for your dog to go. They may like to sit on your lap, or crawl under the table or even go into the bathtub or dog crate. Wherever they want to be is good.
- Close all the windows and blinds.
- Make sure your dog is wearing all of his proper ID tags. More dogs run away during fireworks than at any other time.
- Leave your dog their favorite dog toy.
- Thundershirts work and this is the perfect time for them to wear one.
- If your dog suffers severe anxiety during fireworks no matter what you do, ask your vet about a mild sedative.
