Steve Perry is opening up about his decision to part ways with his Journey bandmates back in 1998.

In a conversation with SiriusXM, Perry explained that he left the bank because he “truly burned out.”

“There was no easy way to stop, leaving the mothership that I had so loved and worked so hard with the guys to build.”

Perry explained that the band never saw it coming when he decided to walk away. In October, Perry will return to the spotlight as he releases a solo album, Traces.

The obvious question is whether Perry will ever reunite with Journey. He explained his decision not to perform with the band at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction as one made out of respect for the band's current singer, Arnel Pineda.
