Though many employees complain about their commute and fantasize about kicking off their shoes and working from bed in their pajamas, the reality is you ought to be careful what you wish for. Here are the costs of working from home:

1. You can never escape it. When you have an actual place to show up at, you can then LEAVE that place and return to your sanctuary, signaling your brain that you are off the clock. When you work from home that computer is always staring at you, beckoning your attention to work.
2. You end up working longer hours. As referenced above, your always physically able to tend to work, so sometimes that's exactly what you do.
3. It's tougher to climb the corporate ladder. Off-site can mean out of sight and not top of mind for promotions.
