You can buy almost anything at Walmart, but NOT an 8 year old child.
ABC Action News reports that a Volusia County man approached a woman and her 8 year old girl inside the Port Orange Walmart on Friday, and tried to “buy” her.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says that Hellmuth Kolb, 81, saw the woman and her child sitting on a bench inside the store and started “bidding” on the child. The mother, Tracy Nigh, told authorities that Kolb initially began a polite conversation and then began asking if she would take money for her daughter.
“The first amount was $100,000, the second amount was $150,000 and then the final amount was $200,000,” she told authorities — adding “I then said, ‘No we have to go’.” As Nigh got up to leave, Kolb grabbed the daughter and kissed her wrist. The arrest report says that Nigh immediately took her daughter and alerted store security.
Luckily the exchange was caught on camera and Kolb was later identified through his credit card transaction and social media, where another woman described a similar experience with Kolb.
Port Orange police say Kolb was arrested on Saturday and charged with simple battery and false imprisonment.
So, what’s the moral of this story? There are creeps everywhere. Imagine what might have transpired if this girl was out in the world on her own. Geez!
