Is Breakfast Really The Most Important Meal?
You hear it all the time: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
But is that really true? Turns out breakfast really wasn’t a thing until the 1800s. Before then, people just ate whatever they had when they woke up, usually leftovers from dinner.
In the 1900s, Edward Bernays, an executive at Beech-Nut looking to sell more bacon, convinced doctors to sign off on a study claiming that eating a large meal at the start of the day was good.
So it would seem that breakfast isn’t that important. However more recent studies, actually based on science, say that eating breakfast improves test scores, wards off depression, and can help you lose weight.
Meanwhile, a report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reveals that going without is just fine and can reduce inflammation. Their best advice is to let your body tell you what to do.
