How Strict Were Your Parents?
So, how strict were your parents when you were growing up?
Different parents have different rules that’s for sure. I think most people of our generation feel that we had it much tougher than kids do today. Depending on the era you grew up in, the parenting differs from generation to generation due to changing times and needs.
So, how strict were your parents compared to everyone else? A recent poll taken at Buzzfeed.com surveyed about 50,000 people and some of the results are below. See how you compare to the masses.
- Did they ever ground you? – 54% said they were grounded.
- Did they limit your TV or internet time? 44% say yes they did.
- Were you allowed to watch R-rated movies? 56% of them were allowed.
- Did you have to be in bed by a certain time when you were in elementary school? 82% did and 30% still had a bedtime in high school.
- Were you allowed to swear in front of your parents? Only 19% said yes.
- Did you have to make your bed every morning? 28% of people did.
- If you claimed you were sick, would they let you stay home from school? 42% said yes and 58% said they had to be VERY sick to stay home.
Just so you know where I rank, I was never grounded (my parents believed in corporal punishment… spanking) that’s why I turned out so good. 🙂 I was limited on TV time, I wasn’t allowed R-rated movies, I did have a bed time, I didn’t dare curse in front of my parents, and I always had to make my bed. As for being sick, I had to be obviously sick and pretty bad in order to get to stay home.
