Children love consuming sugar, but do they eat too much?

Public Health England (PHE) has found that by the age of 10, most children have consumed 18 years worth of sugar. This is causing health concerns involving obesity.

"Children are consuming too much sugar, but parents can take action now to prevent this building up over the years," said Dr Alison Tedstone.

PHE has launched Change4Life, a campaign that aims to reduce children's sugar intake and have families make healthier food choices.

"Today’s children are growing up in obesogenic environments, bombarded by adverts and promotions for junk food online, on TV and in our supermarkets," said Caroline Cerny of The Obesity Health Alliance.

Families can begin by replacing foods containing high amounts of sugar with healthier alternatives.
