Ray Sawyer, who sang "The Cover of the Rolling Stone" with Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show, has died at the age of 81.

Sawyer was in Daytona Beach when he passed on December 31. He had been a member of Dr. Hook from 1969 until 1981. He later toured with the band again as 'Dr. Hook featuring Ray Sawyer'.

In 1967, Ray lost an eye in a car accident, leaving him to wear the patch for which he'd become recognizable.
