The IRS confirmed that tax season will officially begin on Jan. 28th, shutdown or no shutdown.
Currently all but about 12 percent of IRS employees have been furloughed, but the agency says it will recall a "significant portion" of workers once tax season begins.
Last year, the IRS received more than 18 million returns in just the first three days of filing season.
