Florida Cops Could Ask For Your Registration, Insurance and Phone
I must admit, the headline on this story freaked me out a bit at first glance. But it does make sense. These days you can easily get on a plane without a ticket. You just show your boarding pass on your cell phone and that’s it.
That’s the idea behind a proposal that might be on the table soon, according to the Orlando Sentinel. They think that Tampa Rep. James Grand will introduce a bill this spring that would let you use your ID stored on your cell phone to vote, purchase alcohol or give to an officer if you get pulled over. This wouldn’t be a replacement for your ID though. And you’d still have to have your password or fingerprint to verify or access your ID. It’s sort of like Apple Pay for your driver’s license.
I think most people already store a photo of their driver’s license on their phone just in case they lose their ID. So, what do you think? Is this a good idea? I’m pretty sure this is okay, as long as its voluntary.
I guess we’ll soon find out.
