A South Carolina man faces up to 10 years in prison after he faked his own kidnapping and convinced his mother he was in danger of being murdered -- just so she'd give him $130.
Sumter resident Emmanuel Franklin, 19, has been arrested on a felony blackmail charge for attempting to pull off the scheme, which began last week when his mother received a phone call from a private number. The caller told her he'd kidnapped her son and would kill him unless she placed $130 in a mailbox.
The plan fell apart, however, when his mother recognized the address of the mailbox matched the address of Franklin's father.
