Ban The Ban On Plastic Straws
Everyone has heard about or experienced for themselves the ban on plastic straws here in Florida. Recently there has been a discussion on the possibility of banning plastic grocery bags too. Which by the way, was already done years ago in California.
But ABC Action News reports that there is now a new bill on the horizon. House Bill 603 was introduced by Lake County Rep. Anthony Sabatini, and the bill states that “a municipality, county, or other local governmental entity may not adopt, enforce, or implement any ordinance, rule or law that would further restrict a food service establishment from distributing single-use plastic straws to a customer.”
Mr. Sabatini was quoted as saying..“The Decision to use a plastic straw or not should be made by the citizens – not the government.”
Mr Sabatini’s Tweet is posted below.
Today I filed HB 603, a bill that preempts local government‘s power to ban plastic straws in Florida—the decision to use a plastic straw or not should be made by citizens, not government. https://t.co/jUYwWP1bkq

Both sides have their supporters and detractors. It will be interesting to see what happens to this new bill. If it passes, it would go into effect on July 1st.
