Is your sunscreen safe?

The FDA has put out new regulations for the sunscreen industry. Sunscreen companies need to be forthcoming when it comes to how products list ingredients and how they work. The FDA also warns consumers that two ingredients sometimes found in sunscreens, PABA and trolamine salicylate, are not safe.

On the other hand two ingredients, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, are perfectly safe and may continue to be used. Here's another caveat. The FDA is insisting that sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher need to protect against both UVA and UVB rays.

Sunscreen manufacturers have ninety days to submit the required information for labeling to the FDA.
