Pannikkar was giving the elephant a bath, hitting the elephant with a stick to make it sit down. The caretaker live cam caught the moment he strikes the elephant and then loses his balance and falls directly under the elephant before it sat down and crushed his skull.
An investigation is now ongoing into the animal's care as they belong to a hospital trust.
