Top 10 States People Are Leaving to Move To Florida
How many can you guess before peeking? I’ll bet you know #1, but #2 might surprise you! It did me. These statistics come to us from the U.S. Census. These are the top ten states people left in 2019 to move to Florida.
#10: Illinois
ShareApparently they weren't singing "My Kind of Town." About 24,000 moved from Illinois to Florida in 2019. Might be because we have so many Portillo's locations now in the Tampa area. Even Orlando has one now.
#9: Virginia
ShareFlorida was the 2nd most popular state to move to for Virginians.
#8: Texas
ShareFar more actually moved from Florida to Texas, but about 26,000 Texans moved here in 2019.
#7: North Carolina
ShareAbout 28,000 North Carolinans moved to Florida in 2019. But actually more people moved from Florida to North Carolina!
#6: New Jersey
ShareI mean... can ya blame 'em? ;-)
#5: California
ShareThis one was a bit of a surprise to me. We don't have a lot of west coast transplants. They're usually from the north. But just under 30,000 made the cross-country move in 2019. Conversely, about 22,000 moved from Florida to California.
#4: Ohio
ShareFlorida was the top destination for those moving from Ohio... about 30,000 in 2019.
#3: Pennsylvania
ShareNow you know why you see all those Eagles and Flyers jerseys. I can't hate on 'em too much though. If we didn't have all the Pennsylvanians moving here, we might not have Delco's Cheesesteaks in Dunedin.
#2: Georgia
ShareOur neighbor to the north sent just under 50,000 to us, working out to about 9% of those who moved here. Florida was the most common move for Georgians to make in 2019.
#1: New York
ShareNo surprise here right? In 2019, 57,488 moved to the Sunshine State from NY... that's almsot 10% of the people who moved to Florida.

7 Things Tom Brady Loves About Tampa After Living in Boston
Tom told Channel 8 that there are lots of reasons he and the family have been happy with the move to Tampa Bay.
He doesn’t get bugged as much…
ShareTom says Boston is "sports centric." In Tampa, we love our sports, but we have a life... he says Tampa residents are less focused on him and where he's at. With everything there is to do here, people aren't as obsessed with the athletes who live in Tampa Bay.
Recreation
ShareTom loves seeing people out enjoying life outside boating, jogging, kayaking or walking the dog.
Life on the water…
ShareNot that he couldn't afford it before, but Tom said he never got to live on the water living in the northeast.
Location, location, location.
ShareBeing close to Orlando has been a plus for the family. Tom says the kids love Disney World. And it's not just the theme parks...
The Beaches
ShareTom loves taking the family over to Clearwater. He says Tampa is the perfect location between Orlando and the beaches.
The Match: Champions For Charity
ShareNo surprise here - Tom loves being able to hit the links in January, February and March.
The weather…
ShareThe obvious. Living in Boston can be grueling with those long harsh winters. Tom says he loves how the weather impacts your day. He loves to take the dogs out for a walk at night.
10 Ways To Blow A Million Dollars Fast in Tampa
Hire Pat Maroon for your Adult Hockey League Team
ShareHey why not - he's won THREE Stanley Cups in a row now!? And $1 million would be a raise for him. Not only would you get a ringer who can put the puck in the net, we're pretty sure no one would mess with anyone on your team. An enforcer like that is key!

ShareYou could bring about 5,000 of your closest friends.
Top Tier Rays Season Tickets For 50 Years

Rent Tom Brady’s First Tampa House For a Couple Years
ShareWhen the G.O.A.T. first joined the Bucs, he needed a nice place to crash so he rented Derek Jeter's South Tampa house. The rent? About $44,000 a month, according to various reports.
Never Cook Again
ShareWith $1 million, you could have that Cuban / 1905 Salad combo at Columbia Restaurant in Ybor for every meal for the next 50 years.
Your Own Private Gasparilla
ShareHave your own Gasparilla. Rent a few floats and invite a few hundred friends over. You should have plenty of money left over to cover enough Captain Morgan for everyone.
Live at The Don CeSar For 5 Years

5 Tips To Avoid Shark Encounters at Florida Beaches
Night Swimming
ShareIt was a great REM song, but a terrible idea because after sunset, sharks can't tell you apart from the other food in the ocean.
Bright Bathing Suits
ShareLeave those 90s neon bathing suits in storage. Sharks can see them from far away.
Fishers
ShareKind of a no-brainer, but if you see folks fishing, keep away. Let the bait be the bait.
Jewelry
ShareTake it off before you get in the water. To sharks, those shiny reflections of the sun trick sharks into thinking you have fish scales.
Watch For Tarpon
ShareIf you see them, scram. That's what sharks are looking for.

Tampa Among 10 Best Places To Live In USA
The list from Bankrate.com was based upon categories such as costs, education, jobs, safety and quality of life and who is moving to each city. After looking through 50 cities/metropolitan areas, this is the list they came up with.
10. Phoenix, Arizona
ShareYou can visit Camelback Mountain, Old Town, or the Heard Museum. It's also affordable and a healthy place to live.
9. Columbus, Ohio
ShareTake a tour of The Wilds conservation center, visit the Columbus Museum of Art or relax at one of the many craft distilleries. Another place with a low cost-of-living and a strong job market.
8. Kansas City, Missouri
ShareTravel on the KC Streetcar to tour the city. You'll find pretty much everything on that ride in the Crossroads Arts District, Power & Light District and River Market. Cost of living is low and the job market is strong as well.
7. Nashville, Tennessee
ShareIt's Music City. They have it all. And it's not just music. They have a food scene for every taste, plus a very special wine auction. Strong job market, but housing costs are going up.
Tampa
ShareTampa, the city of champions has it all. The sports scene, the food scene and minutes away from some of the most amazing beaches. With the downtown going through its most prolific redevelopment, Tampa is becoming one of the greatest cities in the nation. The cost of living is still relatively low.
5. Atlanta, Georgia
ShareIt's not just for Coca Cola! Atlanta is a metropolitan area bursting at the seams. According to Bankrate.com, they have a booming economy, but safety is an issue.
4. Boston, Massachusetts
ShareYou won't find many places with more history. You can find most by walking the Freedom Trail. However, there is so much more with the sports, museums and even fun day cruises. The job market is strong with high incomes, which you'd need because it's expensive to live there.
3. Colorado Springs, Colorado
ShareYou'll want to have your camera ready. It's a great place to be fit with the outdoor activities. In fact, it's home to U.S. Olympic training. It's also cheaper to live in Colorado Springs than Denver.
2. Austin, Texas
ShareWe may have already shown Music City, but Austin is the Live Music Capital of the World. (Seriously! They even trademarked it!) It's like being in Texas, but on steroids. This place has it all. Culture, entertainment, food... Education and a strong job market. Unfortunately, it's an expensive place to live.
1. Raleigh, North Carolina
ShareHome to Pullen Park, one of the oldest amusement parks in the world, Raleigh has arts, nature, dining from bbq to fine dining. It's a safe place for families and has a strong job market. However, the cost of living in Raleigh is going up.

ShareTexting is meant to replace calling 911. You'll be able to relay info to those who can help you much faster by talking. Plus using the text service could tie up operators who need to help those who have no other option.
Reply quickly.
ShareLong gaps between replies could prevent them from helping others.
Don’t send images or videos.
ShareThose trying to help you can't view them.
Do not group text.
ShareDispatchers can't receive those. Makes sense too because if others get involved in a conversation, the operator could get confused.
Don’t add a space or dash in 911.
ShareJust text to 911 not 9-1-1 or 9 1 1.
Don’t use an emoji.
ShareThe system is text based. Dispatchers won't see the visual emojis were used to seeing now in graphic form on our cell phones.

5 Floridian Hurricane Life Hacks
Hurricane season officially begins June 1. If you want to know how to drive in snow, ask a northerner. If you want to know how to get by during a hurricane, ask a Floridian. Sure stocking up on supplies like bottled water and a generator is key. But here are some off-the-radar life hacks that listeners gave us to get through the storm.
#5: Make sure you have a manual can opener. Those electric ones won’t work with no power.
ShareA great point. Thanks to Ashley for this one! (Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)
#4: Fill Tupperware containers with water and freeze.
ShareKeeping cool is a challenge during power outages. Thanks to Sherri for this. (Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)
#3: Here’s a cheap one… I did it so don’t laugh. I went to Dollar tree and bought 10, 1 dollar solar lights. Once charged, bring them inside and put one in every room. Safer than candles and last longer than batteries.
ShareThanks to Gina for this idea. We like cheap! Dollar Tree for the win! (Joe Raedle/Getty Images)
#2: Need to flush the toilet? Go get some pool water!
ShareSmart! Thanks to Yvette for this one. (Sean Gallup/Getty Images)
#1: Before the storm hits, fill up your washing machine with ice, put items inside that you want to keep chilled and close the lid to keep them cool. Don’t worry about what to do when the ice starts to melt — the machine is designed to drain water.
ShareGreat one John. Gotta keep those drinks chilled. Cheers! (Spencer Platt/Getty Images)
Grad Nite Performers Over The Years

Producer Coop and I designed this eyesore at #Epcot Test Track Monday. We went for as undesirable as possible. I think our concept is a masterpiece. We also decided to use Chinese for our text which in retrospect might have been a poor choice but I assume the loose translation is “hideous.”

What Happened to The Astronaut at Tampa Bay Lightning Games?
A visitor from outer space…
ShareThe mysterious Astronaut first caught the hockey world's attention in 2015. Who was behind the helmet?
Brilliant advertising!
ShareTurns out the astronaut was a bit of a plug. Tampa Bay Lightning corporate sponsor Malektronic was behind the helmet. CEO Ben Malek was the one in the costume.
TV Star
ShareThe astronaut made such a splash it was even featured on ESPN.
I wasn’t just Malek.
ShareTurns out several have actually been in that suit. Malek says the outfit isn't all that comfortable for 3 hours.
But discomfort wasn’t the reason the astronaut disappeared.
ShareMalek says the sponsorship partnership ended last year and when seats were tarped off near the opposing players' bench, he decided to hang the suit up.
So is the astronaut gone for good?
ShareMalek tells the TBBJ that he's considering tickets for next year so don't rule out another visit from outer space.

4 Ways To Save on Gas
NOT PAYING ATTENTION
ShareMake sure to check station prices every time you get gas: drivers can save $200 per year by checking gas prices in their area before their fill-ups. The free app GasBuddy can save you loads by checking nearby stations.
GOING TO THE SAME PLACE BECAUSE OF PERCEIVED EASE
ShareDon't always go to the same station: shop around for gas stations with lower prices. Four out of five drivers have a station they regularly go to. While 58% of drivers say they go there regularly because they think it has the cheapest gas around, nearly 30% of them say that the reason they go to the same station is because it’s the closest one to their work or home, regardless of price.
OVERLOOKING LOYALTY PROGRAMS
ShareSign up for gas station loyalty programs: 44% percent of drivers do not belong to any gas station loyalty program, a similar percentage compared to 2019 (43%) and 2018 (45%).
NOT SWIPING SMART
SharePay with debit cards or cash: credit cards continue to be the most popular payment method (46%) in line with previous years. Yet consumers continue to carry credit card debt. Using debit cards is the second most popular way to pay at the pump (24%), however it often get charged the credit price and have no cashback rewards associated with them. Also, most people pay interest on credit card purchases. Six percent of respondents use cash at the pump.

WrestleMania almost wasn’t WrestleMania
ShareLegendary WWE Hall of Fame ring announcer Howard Finkel is credited with coining the name “WrestleMania,” but before landing on that perfect name, Vince McMahon wanted to call his annual showcase “The Colossal Tussle.”
WrestleMania 35 was the first WrestleMania to be headlined by women.
ShareIt took over three decades for women to headline “The Showcase of Immortals,” but it finally happened in WrestleMania 35 when Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey faced off in a Winner Takes All Triple Threat match for the WWE Raw Women's Championship and the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship.
Run-DMC provided a WrestleMania first.
ShareThe iconic rap group was the first act to ever perform at WrestleMania outside of the singing of the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful” when they performed “WrestleMania Rap” at WrestleMania 5. WrestleMania 2 is the only WrestleMania to happen on a weekday.
ShareUp until this year, which sees WrestleMania 36 split into a two-night event taking place on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5, WrestleMania 2 was the only WrestleMania to not take place on a Sunday. Instead, it took place on Monday, April 7, 1986.
WrestleMania 28 holds the record for most PPV buys.
ShareThe WrestleMania that billed the "once in a lifetime" match between The Rock and John Cena saw 1,217,000 PPV buys, which is the most PPV buys for a single WrestleMania ever. Of course, that “once in a lifetime” tag wasn’t exactly true, and The Rock vs. John Cena would headline WrestleMania 29.
“Macho Man” Randy Savage has the record for most WrestleMania wins in a single night.
ShareOH, YEAH! WrestleMania 4 featured a 14-man tournament for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. Savage would end up winning the title defeating Butch Reed, Greg Valentine, One Man Gang, and “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase.

WrestleMania Stars Who Started in a Warehouse On Dale Mabry
Seth Rollins
ShareHe got his wrestling name from Henry Rollins. Seth is one of the biggest success stories of former FCW wrestlers who trained in Tampa. But he says in the special that he was really getting discouraged and was starting to wonder if he'd ever get the call up to the big time in WWE.
Drew McIntyre
ShareHe's a WWE champ now. But not even 10 years ago, you could see him at that Dale Mabry warehouse for $5!
Roman Reigns
SharePart of a big wrestling family, Reigns was just one of "The Shield" members who trained on Dale Mabry.
Sheamus
ShareThe wrestlers say they weren''t too crazy about training in the sweltering Tampa heat. They say in the special that the trainers rarely turned the air conditioning on.
The Bella Twins
ShareThey said they had it tough breaking in to wrestling as they were initially dismissed as models and not real wrestlers who could compete.
Daniel Bryan
ShareLike Rollins, he expressed frustration on how long it took to get out of Tampa and on to the main WWE roster. His patience paid off as he became a champion just a few short years later.
Bray Wyatt
ShareIn the special, they talk a lot about second generation wrestlers who trained in Tampa. Wyatt is the son of '80s wrestling star "IRS" Mike Rotundo. In the FCW special, they show his early interview acting skills. He was a natural from day 1.
Big E
ShareThat guy in the middle? He's a Tampa guy! Look for him and other members of New Day at Ray Jay.
Charlotte Flair

Naomi
ShareMore known as a product of the NXT system in Orlando, but apparently she also trained in Tampa.
Bayley
ShareJust one of the many female stars who started in Tampa. She chose the spelling "Bayley" because she's from the Bay. (San Francisco Bay though, not Tampa Bay.)
Paige
ShareAlthough she's no longer an active wrestler due to injuries, Paige was trained here in Tampa.
Corey Graves
ShareHe's now on the WWE announce team since his wrestling career was cut short.
Dusty Rhodes
ShareMany of the wrestlers profiled about their time in Tampa remarked how much the legendary Dusty Rhodes helped them develop their wrestling characters. We lost Dusty a few years ago.

GALLERY: A Look at 1978’s Best Rock Albums
Foreigner – ‘Double Vision’
ShareOne of the albums that defined rock radio, 'Double Vision' contains classics like "Hot Blooded," "Blue Morning, Blue Day" and the title track.
AC/DC – ‘Powerage’
ShareA fan-favorite among the AC/DC faithful, 'Powerage' features some of the band's best songs including "Rock and Roll Damnation" and "Sin City."
Blondie – ‘Parallel Lines’
ShareBlondie's classic album 'Parallel Line' stretched from early rock covers with Buddy Holly's "I'm Gonna Love You Too" to disco with their monster hit "Heart of Glass."
Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band – ‘Stranger in Town
ShareThe follow-up to 1976's 'Night Moves,' 'Stranger in Town' would go on to be certified six-times platinum and features the hits "Hollywood Nights," "We've Got Tonight," "Still the Same" and "Old Time Rock and Roll."
The Police – ‘Outlandos d’Amour’
ShareThe Police's debut album 'Outlandos d'Amour' would help sow the seeds of a trio that would go on to be one of the biggest bands of the 1980's thanks to songs like "Roxanne" and "Can't Stand Losing You."
The Rolling Stones – ‘Some Girls’
ShareFifteen years into their career, The Rolling Stones were still great, and they proved it with one of their best albums, 'Some Girls,' which topped the album charts and featured the #1 single "Miss You."
Rush – ‘Hemispheres’
ShareOnly having four songs total, the title track of Rush's 'Hemispheres' took up all of side one on the record. Side two, meanwhile, featured the epic instrumental "La Villa Strangiato."
The Cars – ‘The Cars’
ShareThe Cars' sleek look and sound helped to define the new wave sounds of the 1980's, but songs like "Just Want I Needed" and "My Best Friend's Girl" had an instantly classic sound.
Van Halen – ‘Van Halen’
ShareVan Halen's self-titled debut helped set a new standard for budding guitarists and frontmen. Eddie Van Halen remains one of the biggest guitar heroes ever, and David Lee Roth is still cited as one of the greatest performers, and much of that is thanks to this iconic debut.
The Who – ‘Who Are You’
ShareThe Who's 'Who Are You' was the band's final album with powerhouse drummer Keith Moon, who would die less than a month after the album's release. The title track, which was the last song on the album, was a great final blast from the original lineup.
Cyndi Lauper & 6 Other Women Artists Who Have Yet to be Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Cyndi Lauper
ShareCyndi Lauper asked "Where the women at?!" when it came to representation in the Rock Hall Museum. Well, where Cyndi at in the Rock Hall itself? She's somehow never been nominated, has been ridiculously influential to artists that have followed thanks to many hits like "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," "Time After Time," "She Bop," "Money Changes Everything," "True Colors" and "I Drove All Night." She's also continued to be a force live to this day. Oh, and she's also managed to dominate the Broadway world by writing the music and lyrics for the musical adaptation of 'Kinky Boots.'
The Runaways
ShareWhen it comes to influential women in hard rock, The Runaways should always be part of the conversation. A launching pad for Joan Jett and Lita Ford, the band's four studio albums feature some quintessential '70s hard rock jams including "School Days," "I Love Playing with Fire" and, of course, "Cherry Bomb." Their 1977 live album 'Live in Japan' is incredibly underrated, too. For added measure, a Runaways induction would make Jett a double-inductee.
Eurythmics
ShareNominated in 2017 and 2018, the Eurythmics' unique blend of rock, pop and new wave with singles like "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)," "Here Comes the Rain Again," "Would I Lie to You?" and "Missionary Man" set them apart from most acts in 1980s. Between the powerful pipes of Annie Lennox and the producing prowess of Dave Stewart, this duo would on the surface seem like a shoo-in for induction, but they have yet to receive that honor.
Melissa Etheridge
ShareNot enough is really said about how Melissa Etheridge came out as a lesbian in January 1993 only to nine months later release 'Yes I Am,' the album that would be her major breakthrough into the mainstream featuring hits like "I'm the Only One" and "Come to My Window." Looking back, that's a mind-blowing feat during a time when coming out wasn't always welcome as it is today. Add to the fact that she's consistently put out quality albums for nearly 30 years, has an incredible, easily recognizable voice and writes music that blurs the lines of rock, pop and folk, it's almost shocking she's never even been nominated.
Mary J. Blige
ShareThe Queen of Hip Hop Soul became eligible for induction in 2017, but Blige has yet to be nominated for the Rock Hall despite providing an important female voice in a very male-dominated genre. She's sold 80 million albums worldwide thanks to the strength of her incredible voice and her ability to uniquely blend R&B and hip hop unlike any artist before or after her on tracks like "Real Love," "Not Gon' Cry," "Family Affair" and "Be Without You." While we're on the topic of genre-blending, Blige is the only artist in history to have won Grammys in R&B, hip hop, pop and gospel categories. If that's not worth considering for a Rock Hall nomination, what is?
Cher
ShareOkay, now for those about to cry foul on this pick, if Madonna is in the Rock Hall, Cher definitely deserves to be in. With a career that spans six decades, Cher has defied the odds, remains one of the most iconic pop stars of all time, and she's managed to do it with a style and attitude all her own. She's won just about every award imaginable, from Grammys to Oscars to Kennedy Center Honors. Fun fact: She also the only artist ever to have a number-one single on a Billboard chart in six consecutive decades. Those number ones include "I Got You Babe," "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves," "Half-Breed," "Dark Lady," "After All," "If I Could Turn Back Time," "Believe," "Strong Enough," "Song for the Lonely," "A Different Kind of Love Song," "When the Money's Gone"/"Love One Another," "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" and "Woman's World."
Salt-N-Pepa
ShareLet's talk about how much Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella deserve some recognition from the Rock Hall. With the Rock Hall expanding to recognize the hip hop world, they need look no further than this groundbreaking group of MCs that were not afraid to touch controversial topics in their lyrics and helped pave the way for countless women in hip hop. Decades later, many of their singles like "Push it," "Shoop," "Let's Talk About Sex," "Whatta Man" and "None of Your Business" still sound ridiculously fresh.

Aerosmith’s 50 Greatest Songs Ranked
1. “Walk this Way” – ‘Toys in the Attic’ (1975)
ShareReally, what other song could be number one? From its beyond iconic riff to the way it would eventually bridge the gap between rock and hip-hop a decade after its release, “Walk this Way” is in the same company as “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” It’s the kind of song every band dreams of writing, because it becomes part of the greater lexicon of pop culture; it transcends genre. Someone may not know a lot about Aerosmith’s catalog (BTW: How sad for them?), but they more than likely know or have heard of “Walk This Way.” (The fact the song’s title is a nod to a joke in ‘Young Frankenstein’ only makes its popularity sweeter.) The song also kicked off Aerosmith’s renaissance in the ‘80s thanks to Run-DMC's remake of the song with Tyler and Perry. Who knows what would’ve become of the Bad Boys from Boston had it not been for their collaboration with the “Kings of Rock”?! Only a song this good could have had multiple acts in a given career. Truthfully, music, in general, is better for the existence of “Walk This Way.”
2. “Sweet Emotion” – ‘Toys in the Attic’ (1975)
ShareIntros and builds of a song have been mentioned elsewhere on this list, but without a doubt, ”Sweet Emotion” has the best intro/build of any song in the Aerosmith catalog. Tom Hamilton’s dope-as-hell bassline, Joe Perry’s talk box and, lest we forget, Steven Tyler’s shaking of sugar packets lays down a vibe like none other. (The perfect visual of said vibe was captured in the opening scene of the Richard Linklater film ‘Dazed and Confused,’ which featured “Sweet Emotion” providing the soundtrack for the first scene.) Sure, Tyler used the song to make some jabs at Perry’s then-wife, Elyssa, but if you’re going to be immortalized in a song (especially in a negative way), it better be good. ”Sweet Emotion” is more than just good; it’s a damn classic.
3. “Dream On” – ‘Aerosmith’ (1973)
ShareLike “Mama Kin,” “Dream On” could have only been written by someone who was still scratching and clawing their way to make it big, which is probably why Steven Tyler’s lyrics are so relatable. Most of us have probably had a “Dream On” moment at least once in our lives, likely after being knocked down for some reason or the other. The song may have even helped you get back up and help you “Dream until your dreams come true.” “Dream On” is rightfully beloved, and not just because Aerosmith have played it 1,630 times live in their history. It’s because it’s symbolic of the band in general. They were five kids with a wild rock and roll dream, and they fought like hell to make that dream come true. If you don’t find that inspiring, you might just have to look in the mirror yourself and do some soul searching.
4. “Janie’s Got a Gun” – ‘Pump’ (1989)
ShareGraphic and heartbreaking, "Janie’s Got a Gun” was inspired by stories Steven Tyler read about gun violence in the United States and sexual abuse suffered by children by their parents. It is one of Aerosmith’s most haunting and heavy songs both lyrically and musically. The song would net Aerosmith a Grammy in 1990 for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. In 2015, Tyler would launch Janie’s Fund, a non-profit organization offering resources and shelter for girls experiencing abuse.
5. “Back in the Saddle” – ‘Rocks’ (1976)
ShareThe chugging build of “Back in the Saddle” draws you in, and then Steven Tyler’s screeching “I’m baaaaaccckkkk!” practically slaps you in the face (but in a good way.) There are plenty of songs in the Aerosmith catalog full of sexual innuendo, but the overarching old west themes in the song give “Back in the Saddle” a playful setting reminiscent of ‘Gunsmoke’ and Miss Kitty. Whether that was a concept Steven Tyler kept in mind when he penned the lyrics is anyone’s guess, but “Back in the Saddle” is yet another example of the type of magic the band can produce when all five of its elements are clicking.
6. “Mama Kin” – ‘Aerosmith’ (1973)
Share“Mama Kin” may not have been a hit out the gate, but its legacy sure has grown in the almost 50 years since its release. The song captures a certain romantism about chasing the rock and roll dream that could only really be written by someone who is young and hungry and yet to reach stardom. After listening to “Mama Kin,” you’d be hard-pressed not to get a bug up your ass and finally take a chance on something. It just has that kind of spark.
7. “Last Child” – ‘Rocks’ (1976)
ShareMr. Brad Whitford: please take center stage. The rhythm guitarist co-wrote this classic tune with Steven Tyler, which served as the first single off of ‘Rocks.’ Whitford also is responsible for the track’s guitar solo break. The funk influence on “Last Child” makes it one of the more unique songs in Aerosmith’s catalog.
8. “Livin’ on the Edge” – ‘Get a Grip’ (1993)
ShareInspired by the 1992 Los Angeles riots, “Livin’ on the Edge” might just be the Aerosmith song that resonates the most today. Following the 2020 summer of activism against police brutality, the opening verse just lands heavier: “There's something wrong with the world today/I don't know what it is/Something's wrong with our eyes/We're seeing things in a different way/And God knows it ain't his/It sure ain't no surprise.”
9. “Same Old Song and Dance” – ‘Get Your Wings’ (1974)
ShareWe don’t discuss the grizzly, bizarre narrative of “Same Old Song and Dance” enough, which makes sense because its killer groove takes up most of the listener’s attention. However, there’s murder, drugs, a potential police raid and an escape to the south side of town. This song is f---ing mental! While the opening riff understandably gets the most attention, the guitar solo on “Same Old Song and Dance” was recorded by Dick Wagner. Add in some killer horns, and you have a very unique recipe for a rock and roll classic.
10. “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)” – ‘Permanent Vacation’ (1987)
ShareAerosmith’s resurgence in the mainstream following their first initial boom in the 1970s can be traced back to “Dude (Looks Like a Lady).” The second single off of ‘Permanent Vacation,’ the track was the first hit collaboration of Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Desmond Child. While the song has been accused of being transphobic in recent years, Child said in an appearance on a 2019 episode of the podcast “Talk is Jericho,” “... The wonderful thing about the song is, especially the second verse which goes, 'Never judge a book by its cover, or who you're gonna love by your lover' - that's a song of acceptance.” The song was famously included during a montage in the 1993 film ‘Mrs. Doubtfire,’ and it’s hard not seeing Robin Williams playing broom guitar whenever you hear this song now.
11. “Cryin’” – ‘Get a Grip’ (1993)
Share"Cryin’” explodes on entry and basically dares the listener to not get sucked in and hooked by the first run of the chorus. It’s a magical mix of blues, country twang and hard rock all while being super accessible to lovers of all those genres. It’s a big, bold, arena-ready song that’s just impossible to ignore. “Cryin’” is also the first video in the Alicia Silverstone trilogy and helped launch the actress into the pop culture stratosphere. The video ended up being the most-requested video on MTV in 1993 undoubtedly helping propel ‘Get a Grip’ to its massive success.
12. “Rag Doll” – ‘Permanent Vacation’ (1987)
ShareThere’s so much to love about “Rag Doll.” Once again, all five Aerosmith member are just in their respective grooves perfectly, especially Joey Kramer on the intro. The horns in the chorus are nothing short of delightful. Massive kudos to co-writer Holly Knight who convinced Steven Tyler to change the title to “Rag Doll,” which led to some minor edits to the lyrics. Its original title was “Ragtime,” which is just not a good title at all. Can you imagine “Ragtime” being a hit? Didn’t think so!
13. “Crazy” – ‘Get a Grip’ (1993)
ShareAnother power ballad that isn’t cheesy! Hooray! Desmond Child returns again co-writing the track with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. Of course, it’s hard to talk about “Crazy” without mentioning its music video starring Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler, which closed out the “Silverstone trilogy” of Aerosmith videos (along with “Cryin’” and “Amazing”) in epic road trip fashion. Both the song and the video still hold up today.
14. “Angel” – ‘Permanent Vacation’ (1987)
ShareThe ‘80s birthed a lot of power ballads, and “Angel” was definitely one of the best. It was a massive love song, but there wasn‘t anything cheesy about it, unlike some power ballads. Some of that could be thanks to Desmond Child, who co-wrote the song with Steven Tyler, and was coming off massive success with Bon Jovi -- he co-wrote “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer.” “Angel” is the second-highest charting song in Aerosmith’s catalog on the Billboard Hot 100 chart topping out at number three.
15. “Love in an Elevator” – ‘Pump’ (1989)
ShareFun fact: Arrests for public fornication in elevators went up a staggering 69% percent following the release of “Love in an Elevator.” Okay, that’s a lie, but what is an absolute truth is just how ridiculously fun this song is. Is it out here trying to save the world? No, but it’s peak absurd lust, and that’s always welcomed. (Whoa, yeah!)
16. “No More No More” – ‘Toys in the Attic’ (1975)
Share"No More No More” finds Aerosmith enjoying the highs and lows that come with being a rockstar, from never seeing daylight, seeing plenty of hotel rooms and loving and leaving women “with your sold out reviews.” There likely wasn’t any blood stains on the ivories of the piano played by Scott Cushnie on this track, but there’s no doubt “No More No More” wouldn’t be the same without it.
17. “You See Me Crying” – ‘Toys in the Attic’ (1975)
Share“You See Me Crying” sends ‘Toys in the Attic’ off on a stunning, soaring note thanks to the beautiful use of a symphony orchestra and piano courtesy of Steven Tyler. Part of the song’s legend, of course, might come from how Tyler forgot at one point he wrote the touching ballad due to memory loss from excessive drug use. Supposedly during the recording sessions of 1985’s ‘Done with Mirrors,’ Tyler heard “You See Me Crying” on the radio and then told the band they should consider covering the tune. Joe Perry tactfully told Tyler, “It’s us, f---head.” The bummer of Tyler’s memory loss aside, Perry calling Tyler “f---head” is just plain funny.
18. “Draw the Line” – ‘Draw the Line’ (1977)
ShareBy the time Aerosmith began recording ‘Draw the Line,’ their fifth studio album, drugs were really starting to tear the band apart. The album certainly wasn’t a cohesive work, but there’s no denying that its title track features all five members firing on all cylinders. They couldn’t get it together for an entire album, but they certainly did on ”Draw the Line,” one of the most undeniable bangers in their catalog.
19. “Toys in the Attic” – ‘Toys in the Attic’ (1975)
ShareOut of the gate on ’Toys in the Attic,’ Aerosmith just was not messing around, as was evident on the opening title track. Joe Perry and Brad Whitford were on another synergistic level and Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer provided a borderline anxious, but incredibly infectious, rhythm track. Whether “Toys in the Attic” has a symbolic or literal meaning is anyone’s guess, but when a chorus is that straight-forward and catchy, does it really matter?
20. “Train Kept A Rollin’” – ‘Get Your Wings’ (1974)
Share“Train Kept A Rollin’” was first recorded and released by Tiny Bradshaw in 1951 and was later covered by The Yardbirds, but Aerosmith was the driving force in popularizing the blues tune. The track’s two halves are the perfect yin and yang experience of loose blues and aggressive hard rock. A tip of the hat to Steve Hunter in the first half and Dick Wagner in the second, who provided the lead guitars on the recording.
21. “Come Together” – ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ Soundtrack (1978)
ShareSure, the 1978 film ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ famously bombed, but at least its soundtrack was significantly better. Easily among the high-points of the soundtrack was Aerosmith’s cover of “Come Together,” which would peak on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 23. There are plenty of Beatles covers in the world, but this is one of the best, which is the highest of compliments given the source material.
22. “The Other Side” – ‘Pump’ (1989)
ShareHorns! A massive sing-a-long chorus! A songwriting credit to Motown’s legendary team of Holland-Dozier-Holland due to it sounding too similar to “Standing in the Shadows of Love”! “The Other Side” has IT ALL! By the time it was released as a single, Aerosmith was on an incredible chart roll. The fourth and final single from ‘Pump,’ “The Other Side” was the band’s third number one song on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Song chart from ‘Pump.’
23. “What It Takes” – ‘Pump’ (1989)
ShareWe’ve all been here, haven’t we? Someone’s absolutely broken your heart, but despite that, you just can’t kick those deep feelings about them. “What It Takes” is truly one of the best breakup songs ever, and it features one of the best examples of Steven Tyler’s trademark scream in the chorus when he stretches out the word “dice.” It might not be the most acrobatic of his screams, but it really hits just right.
24. “Amazing” – ‘Get a Grip’ (1993)
ShareAnyone that has battled addiction or loves someone who has can easily relate to “Amazing,” one of Aerosmith’s most personal songs. Steven Tyler penned the lyrics with help from friend/former bandmate Richard Supa, who, like Tyler, struggled with addiction. It’s a sobering reminder that life truly is one day at a time. (Side note: “Amazing” also features backing vocals from Don Henley.)
25. “Line Up” – ‘Get a Grip’ (1993)
ShareSimilar to “Walk on Down,” “Line Up” would’ve been a single for any other band; it’s just that good! Helping Steven Tyler and Joe Perry in writing “Line Up” was Lenny Kravitz, who also provided backing vocals on the track. “Line Up” was also famously used in ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’ during a montage of Ace (Jim Carrey) trying to track down which Miami Dolphins player kidnapped Snowflake, the team’s dolphin mascot. Sure, it wasn’t a single, but “Line Up” was prominently featured in one of the biggest films of 1994. Not a half bad consolation prize.
26. “S.O.S. (Too Bad)” – ‘Get Your Wings’ (1974)
ShareSteven Tyler knows how to paint a word picture more succinctly and more colorfully than others as evident on “S.O.S. (Too Bad).” Just look at the second verse for proof: “Salt Lake City, salt-licking betties/Bogies turn, stinking of gin/Well my daddy was hard, his face was pretty scarred/From kicking ass and playing poker to win.” Plus, that opening riff from Brad Whitford is just killer.
27. “Walk On Down” – ‘Get a Grip’ (1993)
ShareSince we’re already on the topic of Joe Perry, “Walk On Down” is the lone track on the packed ‘Get a Grip’ where he’s credited as the sole writer. He also sings lead and recorded backing vocals, too. No other song in the Aerosmith catalog is more Joe Perry than this one. Simply put: This song kicks ass. Any other band would’ve released “Walk On Down” as a single, but Aerosmith isn't just any other band, and ‘Get A Grip’ wasn’t just any other album. In retrospect, its tracklisting reads more like a greatest hits album than a studio album.
28. “Let the Music Do the Talking” – ‘Done With Mirrors’ (1985)
ShareLook, none of us really want to remember Aerosmith without Joe Perry, but if his absence was necessary to create “Let the Music Do the Talking,” so be it. The track, of course, was written by Perry and originally recorded and released by The Joe Perry Project in March 1980. While the actual music wasn’t altered much when Aerosmith re-recorded it for ‘Done With Mirrors,’ the lyrics were given a complete overhaul and for the better.
29. “Hangman Jury” – ‘Permanent Vacation’ (1987)
ShareA lover’s quarrel + booze + murder = Pretty much the perfect ingredients for a great blues song, which is exactly what “Hangman Jury” is. Add in Steven Tyler on harmonica and the beyond catchy hook of “Whoa, boy, dontcha line the track-a-lack-a" in the chorus, and what you had was the beginnings of Aerosmith’s second act.
30. “Woman of the World” – ‘Get Your Wings’ (1974)
Share“Woman of the World” is a whole damn vibe. From Joe Perry and Brad Whitford’s funky, melodic guitars in the nearly minute-long intro to the song’s titular subject itself, it just drips with cool.
31. “Shut Up and Dance” – ‘Get a Grip’ (1993)
Share'Get A Grip’ was just chock-full of massive, arena-ready songs. “Shut Up and Dance” is one of those songs, and it wasn’t even released as a single in the United States. (And this album had six singles!) Many might remember it closing out ‘Wayne’s World 2’ when Aerosmith showed up at WayneStock. What people may not remember is that in addition to Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Jack Blades and Tommy Shaw also have songwriting credits on this jam.
32. “Uncle Salty” – ‘Toys in the Attic’ (1975)
ShareA precursor to “Janie’s Got a Gun," “Uncle Salty” tells the sad story of a woman who was the victim of abuse as a child and would later become a prostitute. The track’s sustained blues was written by Steven Tyler and Tom Hamilton, who also played rhythm guitar on the recording.
33. “Somebody” – ‘Aerosmith’ (1973)
ShareBuilt around a chunky riff, 'Somebody’ seems to paint a somewhat desperate picture of loneliness. Steven Tyler begins asking for “a lady, not somebody shady,” but not long after he said he wouldn’t be “choosy” and would settle for a “floozy.” Honestly, haven’t we all been there?
34. “Eat the Rich” – ‘Get a Grip’ (1993)
ShareThere probably isn’t an award for “Coolest Song About Cannibalism,” but if there was one, “Eat the Rich” would surely be named the winner. From the weird jungle vibe to the overt middle finger to the snooty folks “dancin’ in the yacht club with Muff and Uncle Biff,” Aerosmith showed with this track alone that over 20 years into their career, they didn’t lose any of their edge.
35. “I’m Down” – ‘Permanent Vacation’ (1987)
Share“I’m Down” wasn’t the first Beatles cover from Aerosmith, but their fun take on the raucous track sure is right at home on ‘Permanent Vacation.’ And the band just sounds like they’re having a blast, too. (BTW: You’ll see their other Beatles cover later in this list.)
36. “Rats in the Cellar” – ‘Rocks’ (1976)
ShareOn the surface, “Rats in the Cellar” is just a badass tune, but there’s a far darker backstory to it. Steven Tyler wrote in his 2004 memoir ‘Does The Noise in My Head Bother You?,’ “'Rats' was more like what was actually going on. Things were coming apart, sanity was scurrying south, caution was flung to the winds, and little by little the chaos was permanently moving in.” For those not fluent in Tyler-ese, the band was going through a tough time.
37. “Jaded” – ‘Just Push Play’ (2001)
ShareYou gotta love a big, bold chorus, and they don’t get bigger or bolder than “Jaded.” It figuratively explodes with, “My, my baby blue,” and it glides on an effervescent riff. “Jaded” peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains the last Aerosmith song to appear on the chart.
38. “Make It” – ‘Aerosmith’ (1973)
ShareFrom the jump, Aerosmith wasn’t playing around as evident on “Make It,” the opening track from their self-titled debut album. (“When life and people bring on primal screams/You got to think of/What it’s going to take to make your dreams.”) It’s both a mission statement and a rallying cry. It might lack the bombast of other songs on this list, but it packs relatable drive and hints at the swagger fans would grow to love.
39. “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” – ‘Armageddon: The Album’ (1998)
Share“I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” is Aerosmith’s biggest ballad for multiple reasons. Penned by songwriting powerhouse Diane Warren, the track was the lead single off the soundtrack from the 1998 blockbuster film ‘Armageddon,’ which starred Liv Tyler, daughter to Steven Tyler. From the beautiful string section to The Demon of Screamin’ hitting some of his boldest notes, it was simply the perfect song for an epic disaster movie. It also gave Aerosmith their lone number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in their whole career.
40. “Deuces Are Wild” – ‘The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience’ (1993)
ShareFrom the late ‘80s to the mid-’90s, Aerosmith seemingly couldn’t miss with their singles. Sometimes, they would hold onto them for years before releasing them. “Deuces Are Wild” was recorded during the studio sessions for 1989’s ‘Pump,’ but it would finally see the light of day in 1993 when it was featured on ‘The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience’ compilation album. It's pretty mind-blowing that such an obvious hit took so long to be released.
41. “Lick and a Promise” – ‘Rocks’ (1976)
ShareSome songs are just fun parties about being a rock star, putting on a great show and getting laid. “Lick and a Promise” is one of those songs. Joey Kramer’s drums come on strong out the gate and don’t let up for the whole track providing a no-nonsense backbone.
42. “Seasons of Wither” – ‘Get Your Wings’ (1974)
ShareKnowing Steven Tyler wrote “Seasons of Wither” inspired by a Massachusetts winter landscape, you can almost feel a chill in the air when listening to this track. Of course, if you’ve never experienced a harsh winter before and can’t relate to the bleakness that can sometimes come with it, buy a parka and go somewhere really cold for a week during the winter months. You’ll learn right quick what “Seasons of Wither” is about.
43. “Stop Messin’ Around” – ‘Honkin’ on Bobo’ (2004)
ShareThis Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac song has been a regular part of Aerosmith’s setlist since the early ‘90s, but it wasn’t until 2004’s ‘Honkin’ on Bobo’ that Aerosmith recorded the tune. Joe Perry is on lead vocals, and because he’s Joe f---in’ Perry, he can make a cool song sound even cooler.
44. “Remember (Walking in the Sand)” – ‘Night in the Ruts’ (1979)
ShareTo be blunt, ‘Night in the Ruts’ is just not a great album. It’s one saving grace is this hard rock version of The Shangri-Las classic “Remember (Walking in the Sand).” The cover even features Shangri-Las's lead vocalist Mary Weiss as an uncredited backup vocalist.
45. “Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees)” – ‘Nine Lives’ (1997)
ShareWhile it was the lead single off of ‘Nine Lives,’ “Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees)” could’ve easily found a home on 1993’s ‘Get A Grip’ thanks in part to the lovely use of horns. Also, only Steven Tyler could write lyrics like, “I’m jonesing on love/Yeah, I got the DT’s/You say that we will/But there ain’t no guarantees/I’m major in love/But in all minor keys.”
46. “My Fist Your Face” – ‘Done With Mirrors’ (1985)
Share“What you pissing in the wind for/You must have snorted too much blees” is probably one of Aerosmith’s most underrated lyrics ever. It’s fitting since “My Fist Your Face” is another underrated track in the band’s catalog.
47. “Big Ten Inch Record” – ‘Toys in the Attic’ (1975)
Share“Big Ten Inch Record” is so tongue-in-cheek filthy you’d assume the songwriting credit would read “Tyler/Perry.” It was actually written by Fred Weismantel and first recorded by Bull Moose Jackson in 1952.
48. “Shame, Shame, Shame” – ‘Honkin’ on Bobo’ (2004)
ShareThere’s a lot of energetic tracks on ‘Honkin’ on Bobo,’ Aerosmith’s 2004 blues covers album, but the band’s cover of Smiley Lewis’ “Shame, Shame, Shame” is a standout. It only clocks in at 2:15, but damn, if it’s not a total party.
49. “Pink” – ‘Nine Lives’ (1997)
Share"Pink” isn’t even a dirty pun; it’s just dirty, but it’s a whole lot of fun. (Oddly enough, “Dirty, but a whole lot of fun” is a perfect, succinct way to describe the Bad Boys from Boston.) Steven Tyler’s harmonica is the bow on top of this package, which may or may not be wrapped in rubber.
50. “Lord of the Thighs” – ‘Get Your Wings’ (1974)
ShareIt’s a dirty pun, get it?! (Would it really be a proper Aerosmith ranking without kicking things off with some crude humor?) It also wouldn’t be a proper Aerosmith ranking without pointing out the dynamic guitar work of Joe Perry and Brad Whitford. “Lord of the Thighs” is the first of many examples of that on this list.
