Tom Petty super-fan (and California real estate agent) Kevin Beauchamp is trying to buy Tom's childhood home.

The house, which is located in Gainesville, Florida may be up for sale by the current owner, and Beauchamp wants it bad.

Beauchamp says that he's made an offer on the house after hearing the current owner mention that she might want to sell it. The property is said to be worth $175,000.

So, why does Kevin Beauchamp want Petty's house so badly? He wants it declared as a National Landmark, and he is already working on the paperwork to get the distinction.

As a side-note... when I first attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, stories were rampant about the days when Tom Petty would regularly play at frat house parties in town. Imagine that!

I'm sorry that I missed out on that.
