It’s bear mating season and just like alligators, bears are out looking for love.
Polk County Sheriffs Office wants you to stay away from bears, but if you do see one, report it to FWC Southwest Regional Office at (863) 648-3200.
I had a close encounter with a black bear cub in Colorado when I was fly fishing. I heard a rustle in the bushes across the stream and all of the sudden a black bear butt came out of the bushes and into the water. I was probably 4 feet away from it and all I could think about was, where is the mother? I dropped everything and climbed the hill to my car and waited a good half hour before going back down for my stuff. They are beautiful.
