It was a month ago that 77 year old Mary Wischhussen woke up to a clatter in the middle of the night only to fins a gator had broken into her home. The gator smashed holes in her walls and broke her glass window. Mary called 9 1 1 and the police helped her get some gator wranglers out thre to take it out of her house and return it to the pond it came from.
Wischhussen filed a claim with her insurance company for the damage the gator caused to her house and waited to hear back. Her insurance company informed her last week that the claim was denied because they don’t cover alligators. Her insurance company Florida Peninsula said that usually the home owners condo association policy covers this kind of damage and there is no comment from Eagles’s Landing yet.
Clearwater residents have been reaching out to Mary to offer her low cost repairs and there’s even a GoFund me account to help her afford the repairs. Seems like we pay our insurance companies in good faith every month and when it comes to what is actually covered it can be very confusing to people. Covered should mean covered!
