There are two meteor showers taking place tonight, while a third meteor shower is still ongoing.

Tonight’s meteor showers have been active for about three weeks, but they happen to be peaking tonight. They are the Alpha Capricornids and the Southern Delta Aquariids. Both showers will produce different types of meteors, so it’s important to know what you’re looking for.

The Alpha Capricornids will produce only 5 meteors per hour but they will be bright fireballs. With regard to the Delta Aquariids, you should look to the south for up to 16 faint meteors per hour.

According to News Channel 8, viewing for tonights showers will be good as the moon will only be a 6% full. They advise for the best view, to travel away from city lights as much as possible (to see a darker sky). And as with any meteor shower it is best to view them after midnight.

Happy viewing!
