While driivng through their Westchase neighborhood, a couple had a close encounter with a python.
Having only been in Florida for under a year, the couple hit the snake in the road while on their way to dinner. They were very surprised what it was they had hit.
Confirmed by the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission, it turned out to be a ball python, a snake that is a common pet among reptile owners.
Ball pythons are considered an invasive species in Florida, but so far, they have not been known to have breeding populations like pythons that are being hunted in the Florida Everglades.
