A student is facing charges after deputies say he brought a loaded handgun to his high school.
According to ABC Action News and the Highlands County Sheriff’s office, another student at Avon Park High School told the school deputy that he knew of another student with a gun on campus.
After a brief search, school officials found the loaded handgun inside the student’s bag. Highlands County Deputies are commending the student who reported the incident for stepping up and speaking out to school officials. This is a case where a possible catastrophe was averted thanks to “See Something… Say Something”.

The Sheriff’s Office said in a release. “We encourage any student who has information about a possible weapon on campus to immediately go to a staff member or to the Resource Deputy. You can remain completely anonymous.”
The boy has been arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
