Citrus County Sheriff Kills Pedestrian

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing US Highway 19 Wednesday night, shortly after 9 P.M.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast was driving the car that struck the pedestrian. Prendergast was traveling northbound in the outside lane of U.S. 19, in an an unmarked Citrus County Sheriff's Office vehicle.
The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been released, was either walking in or across the highway when he entered the path of Prendergast's vehicle.
The Citrus County Sheriff has not yet released a statement.
