Nearly 3,000 people were killed after four planes were were hijacked by members of al Qaeda. There is now a new law in New York that "allows for a brief moment of silence" in the state's public schools at the start of the school day on each Sept. 11. We do things around our Tampa Bay area to honor those lives lost, first responders and other heroes. Here are where some of the ceremonies are taking place:
Madeira Beach at 8:45 A.M. at 9/11 Memorial in Causeway Park
Tampa Fire Rescue at 9 A.M. at Tampa Firefighters Museum
Also in Hillsborough County at 9 A.M. at the Veterans Resource Center
In Palm Harbor at 10 A.M. at Curlew Gardens
Flags around the state fly at half staff per Governor Ron DeSantis.
