Gov. Ron DeSantis wants to make it much more than a slap on the wrist for cities, towns and corporations who spill sewage into our waterways. The current fine is $10,000 a day and as the Gov. explains, that's just not enough for people to fix the actual problem.
In many cases it would cost the town much more to fix the infrastructure than it would to just pay the fine. That's what they do, pay the fine and ignore the real problem that is causing sewage to spill into our waterways.
Doubling the fine to $20,000 a day would be a good first step to making cities, towns and businesses take their spills seriously.
