Are you superstitious? If so, you may want to stay in today.

Today is September 13th. Friday the 13th... and tonight the moon will be a very full Harvest Moon. This spooky combination occurs only about once every 20 years.

Many people believe that Friday the 13th is bad luck and they also believe that a full moon alters people’s behavior… and not always for the better. It is said that the full moon “brings out the crazy” in folks.

I can remember as a kid, Johnny Carson referring to these full moons as, “Holy Day on Hollywood Boulevard”.

So, if you’re feeling a little off  today you can blame it on the combination of triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number 13) and the lunar effect, (the idea that there’s some correlation between moon cycles and human behavior).

In fact, according to AccuWeather, the full moon has been associated with strange or insane behavior, including suicide, sleepwalking and violence.

The Harvest Moon is simply the full moon closest to the Autumnal Equinox, (or the beginning of Fall). This year Fall starts on Sept. 23rd. and this full moon is different from other full moons because it rises at roughly the same time for several nights running, giving more light.

But if you are not superstitious enjoy the day, and be sure to look up tonight to see the beautiful and bright Harvest Moon!
