The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office issued a "shelter in place" (lockdown) for all students and staff at Springstead High School in Spring Hill this morning (Monday, Sept. 16th 2019).

Reports say that the Sheriff’s Office received notification that a gun was stolen from a car off campus by a student that may attend Springstead High School. Sheriff Al Nienhuis says the gun may have ended up in  the school via the student’s backpack.

Deputies are on site searching the campus trying to find the gun. They are reporting everything is well at the school thus far, and have not issued an emergency evacuation.

At this point there is no more to report, but more information is expected from the sheriffs office soon.
