St. Petersburg Police have arrested a seventh grader from Johns Hopkins Middle School on Friday for starting a fire in the school.

According to police, the 13-year-old boy started the fire in a bathroom stall just before 12:30 p.m., using his backpack as the incendiary device.

St. Pete Fire-Rescue responded to extinguish the fire. Police say the fire caused minimal damage, but did produce a lot of smoke, which lead to the evacuation of the school's students and Staff.

Police reports say no one was injured and that the seventh grade boy was arrested for arson.
