A 12-year-old St. Petersburg female student at Tyrone Middle School has been arrested after she made a school shooting threat via a social media post.
Police reports says she posted a picture of the school on social media and said she was planning to have the school “shot up”. The post was seen and shared via social media several times.
A report came in to the School Resource Officer from another student who had seen the post, sparking an investigation.
The St Pete Police Department had this to say..
“Making threats at school is not a joke. The St. Petersburg Police Department takes all threats against schools very seriously. Anyone who makes verbal or written threats will be investigated and face serious consequences.”
Police arrested the girl on Tuesday for making a written threat to kill or do bodily injury, which is a felony.
You have to wonder when this will stop. Parents need to be talking to their kids about the seriousness of making these threats and the damage they are doing to themselves and their futures. Nobody needs a felony arrest on their permanent records.
