Put the phone down when you're in the school pick-up line.

Hillsborough Superintendent Jeff Eakins says: “Drivers, they need to step up and put the phones down.” Now, police will be pulling over drivers if they are holding a phone when they're driving in school and/or construction zones.

Rep. Jackie Toledo explained, “This is not just texting and driving. This is actually just holding a phone.”

Over a two-year span, there were almost 2,000 crashes in school zones.

Until Jan. 1, 2020, officers will most likely be issuing a warning, rather than a ticket, but next year, they'll start writing tickets.
