A couple of hunters stumbled upon the massive reptile in the Big Cypress National Preserve while on a path.

The two who captured the snake are involved with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission’s Python Action Team.

This snake, at 18 feet, 4 inches, was the second largest caught in Florida.

The Python Action Team was organized to capture and remove pythons, which are not native to Florida, from the ecosystem. More than 900 have been captured so far.
