Clearwater Police Arrest Two Women In Shoplifting Assault
The Clearwater Police Department say they have arrested two women in connection with a liquor store theft that turned violent, when one of the suspects assaulted an employee with a bottle of vodka.
Police say that 23 year old Ashlyn Gomes of Largo, and 31 year old Ashley Gerber of an unincorporated area of Pinellas County, were charged with one count each of Aggravated Assault and Retail Theft.
Police say the incident occurred September 23rd. at 7 Stars Wine and Spirits in Clearwater. Apparently, the two suspects had purchased a few items at 7 Stars, but on their way out, took a large bottle of vodka without paying for it.
When store clerks saw what happened and confronted the two, a violent confrontation ensued. Gomes swung the glass bottle of liquor at the employee’s face, just missing him. Police say she then threw the bottle at the employee, also barely missing him. The bottle shattered on the floor and the suspects fled.
Police said they arrested the “Vodka Bandits”, (Gomes and Gerber) on Friday October 11th., just hours after their pictures appeared on social media.
