The Largo Police Department is the first in Florida to have it. I honestly thought this was already a thing, but apparently it's not. If you call 911 from your mobile phone, disapatchers have no way of knowing where you are exactly. You still have to give an actual address so they can get help to you. In 2019, that seems crazy to me. We all have GPS on our phones. Well now Channel 8 reports the Largo Police Department is the first in the state to have new technology that will use your smartphone's location capabilities to get help to you faster. Not only will they be able to locate you, with your permission, they can even turn on your phone's camera. It works via text message. If you approve, a dispatcher could skip a lot of questions by seeing what you're seeing.
