They did not want to cancel the tree lighting but they ran out of time. For the past three decades, the floating tree has been on display at Center Place floating on Clayton Lake. Every first Wednesday in December the 16 foot tree was lit up by Center Place with the help of a business partner. Last year the tree was damaged when they were taking it out of the lake and in addition to that, Center Place lost their partner.
Center Place did not want to name the business partner but told Channel 8 reporters that they appreciated the partnership over the years and that business has a new owner. Center Place has been scrambling to repair the tree and secure a new partner but simply ran out of time for this year.
The non-profit is reaching out in every way they can to bring back the performers and the beautiful floating Christmas tree for next year.
