The Latest Data Breach: A Popular Gas Chain In Tampa Bay
A few years ago, a police presence was needed when the first Wawa in the Tampa Bay area opened. Now they’re everywhere. We love the subs. The gas is usually the cheapest. So this news is not going to be well received. Channel 8 reports that Wawa has discovered some kind of malware in their system and it is possible that every Wawa location has had data compromised since March of this year. They say credit card infomration like numbers, expiration dates and names on those cards might hve been exposed at both the pump and in store.
They found the problem December 10 and say they got it taken care of 2 days later. Wawa will provide a year of identity theft protection and credit monitoring if you call 1-800-386-9559. And of course check your credit card statements to see if there are any weird charges. I don’t know about you, but these are becoming so common now that you just have to shrug it off. I couldn’t quit Wawa… those subs are too good. The free air pumps. The cheap gas. And have you ever had those soft pretzels with the sweet cream cheese filling? I love me some Wawa.
