A heartbreaking story tonight from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, as they are investigating the suspicious death of a 9-month-old baby, in Hobe Sound.
ABC Action News reports that the child was found unresponsive in the bathtub of a home, at the 9100 block of SE Parkway Drive on Friday afternoon.
According to Sheriff William Snyder, the child’s mother left the baby in the bathtub at around 11am, (for at least 20 minutes) so she could take a nap. The sheriff’s report states that the baby’s father was also asleep at the time.
Sheriff Snyder says, “When she came back, she found the baby, what they described as blue. Obviously the child drowned.”
The sheriff’s department reports that the child’s father was attempting CPR when deputies arrived on-scene. The child was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff Snyder went on to say, “Obviously a 9-month-old alone in a bathtub could be prevented. It’s very suspicious.”
A spokesman for the sheriff’s office said that a married couple lives at the home with three children. The Department of Children and Families is assisting with the investigation, and is removing the two other children from the home.
At this time no arrest have been made, but Sheriff Snyder said that he will consult with the State Attorney’s Office to determine if criminal charges should be filed.
