Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD) is tomorrow, January 9th. It's a day each year, that citizens should take the lead to show support for all the men and women who wear blue (or if they're deputies... then green)

We hope you will join us in a show of support for all our great law enforcement here in Tampa Bay. Listed below are a few suggestions of how to show them your appreciation:

  1.  Wear blue clothing in support of law enforcement.
  2.  Send a card of support to your local police department or state agency.
  3.  Share a story about a positive law enforcement experience on social media.
  4.  Ask children in your community to write letters or draw pictures in support of law enforcement.
  5.  Participate in Project Blue Light – Proudly display your blue light in support of law enforcement.
  6.  Organize an event or a rally in support of your law enforcement officers.
  7.  Or just wave or salute an officer when you pass them in your car.

If you see them out at a restaurant, maybe pick up their lunch check or buy them a coffee. Maybe you and the kids can drop off a plate of cookies at the local police station. Just let them know that you appreciate the sacrifice they make each day.

And most importantly, if you see a police officer, just stop and say, "Thank you!"

Police officers all around the world in every rank and position have pledged to do a job that risks their lives every day, for the communities they serve. Answering a call to do public service, that is very demanding, and unfortunately often unappreciated can be quite taxing.

Officer's duties command dedication to a thankless job. A job that usually is underpaid for the amount of risk that one takes. They never know what they may face from minute to minute in order to make our communities safer.

When you think about what all they have to do, it's easy to appreciate them. Yet many times we do not take the time to stop and say thank you. But thanks to National Law Enforcement Day, we have an opportunity to thank them for their service and offer a token of respect.
