Texting to 911 is a relatively new service in Largo, having begun in Pinellas County in 2018. This woman didn't know that, although they can help in many ways, they are not set up to give divorce advice.
Sylvia Shumaker, 68, texted 911 looking for advice on filing for divorce.
No, not just once. She texted six times looking for a counselor and advice.
Largo police arrested Shumaker and she was informed that this is not a matter for 911. They had visited her home before after she had made a complaint about her husband.
During a second visit to her home, she appeared to be intoxicated.
