10 News reports that University of South Florida St. Petersburg and Eckerd College did a study that found 4 billion particles of microplastics in the bay.
Tampa's City Council has requested a proposal for a ban on certain plastics.
There's a difference between what Tampa is considering and what was done in St. Petersburg. Tampa is looking to control single-use plastics only on city-owned property. This would not impact private businesses, and they aren't looking to ban plastic straws.
