This is awful. Parents really need to have a serious talk with their kids about the consequence of their actions. That lockdown at Barrington Middle School in Lithia today was all due to a fake 911 call. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is trying to find out who made the call. The caller, who they say was a young male, said his friend had a gun and a shot was fired. The caller tried to disguise his voice to sound older. A fake name and phone number were given before the call was ended. They say detectives are on the case and the caller will be held accountable. They say abusing the 911 system is a felony.

Everybody ready. Good evening everyone. I think you can look around and those of you were here about the time that I came. This was a false alarm. We're confident there's a false alarm to all the parents out there. This is a false alarm.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says the call came in at 2:14. Within minutes police were on the scene and the school security team put the school on lockdown. Students and parents were terrified. The HCSO begged parents today to explain the ramifications of making a fake 911 call.
