The Firestone Grand Prix in Saint Petersburg. FL is undoubtedly the biggest annual event that the city hosts, but at what cost?

Now that construction of the Grand Prix race-course is officially underway, (encompassing much of St. Petersburg’s downtown bay-front area) traffic is becoming slow and snarled throughout the city.

If you are unfamiliar with the event, the Firestone Grand Prix is an Indy car series that takes place each year during Florida’s spring break season of March. This year marks the 16th. year for the Grand Prix in St. Pete, and it runs from March 13th. to the 15th.

The building of the race course involves many downtown streets, in combination with the runway of Albert Whitted Airport.

It’s an exciting weekend of speed on the beautiful and picturesque St. Pete waterfront. Drivers are expected to race at speeds in excess of 170 mph, on a 14-turn course, through the streets of downtown St. Petersburg.

It’s a great family-friendly weekend with interactive games and you’ll actually have a chance to meet the drivers themselves!
