The iconic Little Richard has died. He was 87.

Richard's death was confirmed to Rolling Stone by his son, Danny Penniman. A cause of death was not disclosed.

Richard's music, stage presence and fashion have long influenced countless generations of musicians, from Elton John to Prince. Some of his biggest hits, including "Tutti Frutti," "Long Tall Sally," "Rip It Up," "Lucille," and "Good Golly Miss Molly," were the building blocks of rock and roll.

Richard's decades-long and massively influential career saw him receive some of the music industry's biggest honors including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993 and being part of the first induction class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
