You know what contact tracing is, right? Officials form the health department call you and say, “You’ve been exposed to someone who had COVID-19.”
Well, be careful because if you get a phone call like this, it might be a scam.
Scammers are doing contract-tracer copycatting to try to obtain your personal information. So how do you know who to trust?
Bryan Ogelsby is with BBB, West Tampa. He said, “The big tip-off to the scam is that the scammers will use very aggressive and high-pressure tactics, they’re not going to be knowledgeable about the information about you, and they’re going to ask for real personal information." He added, "Iff you receive a text message, or an email, or maybe even an alert through your social media channels, this is a big red flag, do not respond to these methods of contacts."
Some Florida businesses are reopening as the number of COVID-19 cases begin to go down. Many have limited hours and capacity so it's a good idea to call ahead.
