With everything happening in our country today, it's understandable that members of law enforcement are facing challenging times.
Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan said, “Morale is in the gutter, so to speak.”
Officers have had to deal with long shifts, and they've policed protests and been more exposed to COVID-19.
Many police across the country are resigning.
And even in Tampa, according to Chief Dugan, there have been early retirements. He said, “We’ve had a few people turn in the towel ahead of time. That’s understandable. These are difficult times to be a police officer right now."
In St. Petersburg there is a new methodology for hiring where a civilian, usually a spiritual leader, is a part of the interview process (with the prospective officer).
